Our History

New Braunfels Christian Church

New Braunfels Christian Church started in the homes of Phillip Cobb and LaVaine Kester. The first formal service was held on January 17, 1971, at the Girl Scout House, located at the corner of Fredericksburg and Howard Streets, with 38 people in attendance. Our first minister was Jerry DeMar.

He served as our weekend minister while completing his studies as a student at Dallas Christian College. Albert Houk followed as our first full-time minister and served the church for 17 years. He was followed by J. Rick Bartlett who served for 16 years and our present minister, Doug Gibson. While services were being held at the Girl Scout House, land was purchased at the church’s present location, 734 N. Loop 337.

Construction was first begun on classrooms followed by the sanctuary and then the fellowship hall followed by construction to join the two buildings, tying the sanctuary with the fellowship hall. The Lord has blessed this congregation with the right people at the right time. All of the labor to the first buildings and continuous improvements to the facilities was done by members and friends. The church has no indebtedness.

We a loving, God fearing church family who love the Lord and each other. New Braunfels Christian Church is a “GREAT PLACE TO CALL HOME”. We welcome believers and the New Braunfels community to worship with us each Sunday. Sunday School begins at 9:00 a.m. followed by the Worship Hour at 10:00 a.m.
